Chicken Spaghetti

I really hope to one day meet the Pioneer Woman.  I mean, an Oklahoma girl who makes food that reminds me of childhood, home....pretty much all things holy. hehe..

I made her Chicken Spaghetti last night for Mr. Arotin (with low sodium cream of mushroom soup!!), and he was in LOVE!!  I think Chicken Spaghetti is a true Oklahoma dish.  I haven't seen it / eaten it / heard of it anywhere else I have been in the world.

Have you ever heard of it?  Will you try it now?!

Spring Inspiration Station

Last night Mr. Arotin and I took a fantastic yoga class from my absolute favorite yoga teacher ever, Kyra Anastasia.  I felt as though her higher focus in class (outside of the poses and breath) was to bring all of our minds on the path of readying for spring.  Out with the old, in with the new.....total inspiration.

To me, spring is all about planting seeds and preparing for the beauty of what is to come.  I think this Spring mentality carries through all of life.  With proper preparation (planting your seeds) and making the right decisions based on gut and balance, you can truly make your life what you want it to be.  More, its important with that to realize that dreams don't come true immediately.  You have to fully prepare and then jump in with both feet when the time is right.

At the end of class, Kyra read a passage that really hit home with me.  I think because I have been planning and preparing for many changes, trying to make my own dreams come true!  Sometimes, I get lost in all the planning and wonder if all my work is leading somewhere.  This passage helped me to see that my dreams are there, my seeds are planted, I just need to be a little bit more patient and wait for the perfect conditions.

“In April, we cannot see sunflowers in France, so we might say the sunflowers do not exist. But the local farmers have already planted thousands of seeds, and when they look at the bare hills, they may be able to see the sunflowers already. The sunflowers are there. They lack only the conditions of sun, heat, rain and July. Just because we cannot see them does not mean that they do not exist.”
- Thich Nhat Hanh

I am so inspried to work hard this spring and summer.  As they say, there is no better time than now to make your dreams come true!!

What are you preparing for this spring?  What are you hoping to manifest in your life?  Isn't Spring just the best time ever to get excited for all that is to come?!

Sleep Sheep

With Easter approaching quickly, I have started to brain storm about presents to send Baby Girl Pride!

I found this sleep sheep and it seems like the perfect cuddly, soft gift for a baby girl.  Apparently, it is not only plush, but also makes soothing sounds to help baby fall and stay asleep.  Seems like my sister would love me for getting this gift, too! Win-win.

I also think these are cute!

One of these might be perfect, too!

What are you getting your kids / friend's kids / nieces or nephews for Easter?!

EXCITING NEWS!!! + What I Learned This Weekend!

Happy Monday, lovelies!  I am soooo excited to share my news with you all today!   (No mom, I am not pregnant.hehe.)

I FINALLY launched my Etsy shop!  You can visit my shop here!  I am specializing in upcycling furniture and selling unique and vintage home goods.  When I blog about DIY projects, I will then make many of my projects available on my shop for you to purchase!  Ekkkk!

When I started Love, L.A. last June, launching a correlating Etsy shop was always part of the plan.  With my Exhale training and general life craziness, it has taken some time for the dream to come into fruition, but today is that day!

Now, on to things I learned this weekend.  This cheap American Lager, Port Republic, is yummy.  Its like PBR, but with a little more flavor.  The perfect drinking game beer.  (That was foreshadowing to the next thing I learned.)

I also learned that making Trivial Puuuursuit (purr because Miles really liked to lay on the board while we played) a drinking game is hilarious.  Chris and I played for about 2 hours and each of us only got 3 right.  I wonder why?!

Image Source: Nina Leen. St. Louis, Missouri, USA, April 1957.
I'm sad to say that I learned on Saturday that I am probably the worst bowler on Earth.  I haven't gone bowling in years, but I didn't remember being so horrible! I was totally the girl that made people duck when I walked up to grab my ball.  And, the people in the lanes on either side of me also backed up as I started taking my steps towards my ball launch.  wah wah.

Last on the list is I learned how to correctly poach an egg and that Mr. Arotin can make a MEAN hollandaise sauce.  Just another thing I love about him.

Have a great week and visit my Etsy shop!!

It's Friday, I'm In Love....With...

...my finally finished menu board!

Lovelies, its finally done!  I made the chalkboard part of the menu board months ago, but I finally completed the project by building and painting its frame.  Yes, you read that right, I built the frame, myself!  I used this tutorial as a guideline and with the help of a mitre box, viola!

 ...natural glam makeup.

With our first anniversary coming up (nearly 2 weeks away, eeeeekkk!), I have been looking for the perfect makeup to compliment the gorgeous olive dress I will be wearing for our vow renewal.  The olive leads to a very natural look and I think this makeup style is just glam enough for a special event, but also very natural.  What do you think?  P.S. The dress is AAAAAmazing and I can't wait for you to see pictures!! (Which will be taken by lovely Shannon of Shannon Lee Images.)

...sewing projects to come!!

I have decided that it is finally time for me to travel in my mother's foot steps and take up sewing.  I have come so far in my domesticity in this first year of marriage (this was my first grand crafting accomplishment), that sewing seems to be the natural next step.  The above picture shows three alteration projects I will start with and I have already printed this pattern as my first fully Lindsey Arotin made piece.  I am sooooo excited!  Something about Spring makes me want to craft day and night.

....this easy up-do hair tutorial!

Sorry for all the anniversary talk, but its on my mind.  How easy, natural and cute is this look?  I think I can totally create it!  I also loooovee this, but I have a feeling it looks much easier than it actually will be to pull off!

Happy freaking first weekend of Spring, lovelies!!!  Big plans?  How is the weather?  Will you be heading outdoors?!  I will be teaching lots on Saturday and Sunday is going to be a full day of projects.  One of which I am sooooo excited to share with you next week!

Have such a fun weekend.  Eat yummy food, hug those you love and try to sweat some, too!

Plan A

Until I was about 19, I just knew that I was meant to be President of the United States of America. I wore a t shirt very similar to this until it was literally full of holes and didn't fit anymore.  Kids can be funny, right?!

Now, the idea of being in the public eye, with that amount of life stress just makes me tired.

Sometimes I struggle with letting go of my childhood ambitions and reaching towards what I want today - a healthy life, life-long and very loving marriage, the chance to change the world by helping people one day at a time, to own my own business.

This quote inspired me and reaffirmed that its totally okay that I wasn't a political science major, that I didn't go to law school, and that I won't (most likely, anyway..heheh) be the first female United States President. You know what else I love about this quote?!!!  If the track I am currently on doesn't work out, I still have 24 more letters and plans to choose from! :)

What plan are you on lovelies?  Do you love that fact that life ebbs, bends and changes?  What were your childhood ambitions?  Are you living them?  Did they totally change?!

Have a wonderful Thursday!

Traditional Anniversary Gifts

With my first wedding anniversary approaching quickly (less than 3 weeks!), Mr. Arotin has started to probe about what I might like as a gift.  Thus, the anniversary gift list that I loathe and know was invented by a man to get out of having to buy nice things once a year infamous traditional anniversary gift list has come into conversation.  He wants to stick with this list, I don't.  (Maybe I should say, I didn't.  Because, in true Virgo-hyper-planner form I decided on and purchased his anniversary surprise months ago.)

Sticking to this list has never made sense to me, for me.  I am not a traditional person.  We did not have a traditional wedding.  And, as icing on the cake, who the hell wants to fear that there is even a remote possibility that they may receive sugar as a 6th anniversary gift or appliances as a 4th anniversary gift?!  I mean those gifts are basically saying "Honey, we are out of sugar or the dishwasher is broken, but don't you worry our anniversary is coming up and we can use it as an excuse to get some / fix it."  Puke + shank = slow death.

I have seen a few cute ways to incorporate the traditional paper gift into an actual awesome first anniversary gift.  But, in general, I am guessing that no woman wants paper or a clock on their first anniversary or a "desk set" on their 7th anniversary.  I mean, really list maker?!  We make it through the 7 year itch and get a desk set?!

Anyway, I thought I would bring these questions forth to you all:  Am I the only woman who thinks this list (and the obviously male list maker) is not only out-of-date, but totally out of wack?!  More importantly, am I the only woman that thinks waiting 10 YEARS to receive diamond jewelry is crazy?!  Have you stuck to / will you stick to this list?  What do you think, lovelies?!

First Day of Spring!

Lovelies!  I am giddy with excitement because today is the first day of spring!  As I type this, I am actually listening to spring birds chirping and can smell dew in the air.

Spring has a whole new meaning in my life since I met Mr. Arotin. (Not to get all sappy.hehe)  We first met and started dating in the early Spring, were engaged on the same day we met (one year later!) and we were also married in early Spring.  When the sun stays up later and the flowers begin to bloom, my heart skips a beat as I am filled with nostalgia of not only childhood, but new love.

I thought I would share the top 10 things I love about Spring with you today.  Maybe you love some of these too?!

1) Spring Flowers! Daffodils, Peonies, oh my!

2) Picnics!

3) Spring dresses

4) Spring sandals

5) Love is in the air! (Including my wedding anniversary!)

6) Roof top happy hour

7) Bike rides

8) Spring makeup (Light, dewy, glowy - all my favorite looks!)

9) Open windows (Miles and Nik looooveeee spring air)

10) Spring beer brews!

Did I miss any of your favorites?!

Happy Spring!!

What I Learned This Weekend

Happy Monday!  I hope it is beautiful and getting warm where you are this week!

Mr. Arotin was out of town for a bachelor party this weekend, so I spent time with great friends eating great food, talking, crafting and spa-ing.  GREAT girlie weekend.

First on the list of things I learned this weekend is that Snake Bites are delicious when made at home, but its really hard to get the drink seperation seen at a bar.  I tried everything (slow pouring, using a spoon, etc.) and my cider and Guinness mixed together from the start.  They still tasted delcious, so at least I had that!  Any tips on how to get the Snake Bite to stay seperated?!

Secondly, I learned that even kitties can leave you with the "terrible two" feeling.  Miles turned 2 on St. Patrick's Day and I could not for the life of me get him to look at the camera for a birthday picture.  When he finally looked, he had the above pissed face on!  Like, "why are you embarrassing me, Mom?!"  At age two, he is still rowdy like a kitten, but with the swagger of teenage cat.  I think I have a rough kitty year ahead.  Good thing my spray bottle works well. :)

Next, I learned that no matter what I order at Papa Cristos, its delicious.  Oh, oh and, I love Greek beer.
I headed to my favortie Korean Spa on Sunday for a body scrub and massage.  My skin feels great today!  At the end of the treatment, they put mashed cucumbers on my face and I learned new benefits of cucumbers from the experience.

I always knew that the Silica in cucumbers was a good treatment for puffy, dark circles around your eyes, but did you also know that the Silica helps produce bone collagen and calcium, which helps us retain moisture in our skin?!  This helps strengethen our connective tissue which leads to anti-aging effects.  More, its great to use on sunburns and just as a hydration tool for dry skin.

I had no idea what mashing up a little cucumber could do for my face!

With Spring and Summer coming quickly, here is my first reminder to you all to wear your SPF EVERY DAY, find a large brimmed sunhat, and stay out of those UV rays.  Tanned skinned isn't cool anymore, anyway!

Stay young, stay out of the sun.

Last on the list of things I learned this weekend is that Mr. Arotin is hilarious.  This was his 80s ski themed outfit for the Saturday night poker tournament during the bachelor weekend.  That afro wig really pulls the look together, don't you think?! haha.

Have a great week!

...this card!!!

It just makes me laugh!!!

Happy Friday, lovelies!

I am excited / sad for this weekend.  Excited because I get to see great friends and make crafts all weekend (while it rains!!).  We don't get nearly enough rain in Southern California, so I actually find rainy days and weekends to be a treat!  Sad because Mr. Arotin is going to Park City for a bachelor party and I will miss him!  All the boys are dressing 80s ski (any idea what that means?!) on Saturday night and we found Chris a hilarious outfit and wig to wear.  I can't wait to see (and share) a picture of him!

I hope you have fun celebrating St. Patty's Day (I will be having snake bites!!) and stay safe.

xoxox,

P.S. Friendly reminder that I will now be teaching @ Exhale @ 11:30am, 1245pm and 4pm on Saturdays!  Come sweat and play with me!

Electrifying!

Yesterday I picked up my new (and might I say AWESOME) Electric Yoga outfit during a nutrition event at Exhale.  I couldn't help but share this super fun picture Tara, the genius marketing guru at Electric Yoga, took of me in my new gear!

I am super obsessed with the bright (should I say electric?!) blue color of the top and the lightning bolt on both the top and bottom.  Not gonna lie, I kinda feel like Super Woman in this outfit!

While at the event, I also had a chance to check out some of their other stuff and its all super amazing.  The pants are super stretchy and feel like a second skin. The tops fit like a glove.  I think I am most obsessed with these two products that I literally could not stop touching - this vest (holy goose-down awesome) and this bag (holy light-and-full-of-pockets awesome).

If you have a chance, you should check out this line.  Not only are the products amazing, but also the company values are inspiring and their products are made right here in the USA.  I love buying products and supporting companies with a positive message and good energy.  Electric Yoga has both = win-win!

Pi(e) Day

Happy Pi Day, lovelies! 3.14 = pi!

With spring really in the air these days (meaning fresh strawberries are coming soon!!!) and in honor of Pi Day, I thought I would share a pie recipe that I have been dying to make.

Doesn't this Spring Strawberry Pie seem so yummy!  Bonus = its only 229 calories a piece.  Pretty AWESOME for a slice of pie, don't you think?!

I hope you enjoy Pi Day to the fullest wherever you are.

Snake Bite

With St. Patty's day approaching on Saturday (and Mr. Arotin out of town at a bachelor party in Park City), I have been trying to think of a fun menu for a Saturday night slumber party I am having with a girlfriend who is also being left by her love for a bachelor weekend.

The food menu is still in flux, but the drink of choice has been decided: Snake bites! Yum!

This recipe is super easy.

1 pint glass (true, UK style)
1 bottle Guinness
1 bottle Hard Cider

Chill your glass, then pour in the cider.  Guinness comes next.  Be sure to pour slow so that you have a light foam top.  Its pretty (like color blocking! kinda.  I love when all my favorites combine.) and tasty!  My favorite part of this drink is the spot where the Guinness and cider combine.  Lip-smakin' delicious.

What are you doing, making, drinking on St. Patty's Day?!

xoxox,

L.A.

P.S. If you feel like getting your sweat on before you party, my Exhale schedule has changed and I will now be teaching 11:30am Core Fusion Barre and 12:45pm Core Fusion Cardio on Saturdays! Come play!

What I Learned This Weekend

I'm going to have a niece!!!  Yippie!

I took all these shots as a gender reveal shoot for Toni and Mark while they were visiting this weekend.  I like the light coloring and beachy feel.

Now that I know what gender to shop for and plan a shower for, you better believe that Auntie Awesome is excited!

A little shower inspiration.

I am dying over all this. (Okay, so the aunt one is a little silly, but I might buy it anyway!)

Wishing you all a joy-filled, spring-forwarded (yay for more sunshine) week!

House Guests

Lovelies, some weeks are for preparing for and entertaining house guests and not so much for blogging.  This is one of those weeks for me!

My little sister and new brother-in-law are coming in town tomorrow for a five day visit.  I am so excited I can hardly stand it!  We are going to talk about baby shower ideas, take a few gender reveal pictures (yes, I already know the sex!!!), and just spend some good ole fashioned down time together.

Anyway, sorry if I am light on posting this week!  Next week will be full of fun stuff!

xoxox,

L.A.

P.S. I purchased the carafe above to hold water for guests by their bedside.  I love how the little glass fits perfectly on top to keep out dust (and kitty paws!).

Happy weekend, lovelies!

Its going to be warm and sunny in Santa Monica this weekend and I am in desperate need of a bike ride to the beach and little relaxation.  I would love to buy this to compliment my beach day, but Mr. Arotin might get mad!

What are your plans?!

Botox or Bangs

One of our Core Fusion clients walked into the studio last night with a new do that totally rocked a fellow teacher and myself!  She got bangs!!  She is one of quite a few people I have been stunned to see don the bang do recently.

I always ask people when they get bangs, what made them decide to take the plunge.  This particular student made me laugh so hard when I heard her bang-reasoning that I just had to share!  She said she had two choices one morning after looking in the mirror: botox or bangs.  She chose bangs. Hehe.

What do you think about bangs?  Do you have them?  Would you?  I tried the bang thang just after my wedding and am still in the process of growing them out!  I am not a bang girl, but I think they are sooooo pretty!  In a choice between botox and bangs, however, I believe I would suck it up and deal with the bangs.  What would you do?

Speaking of botox, have you heard of / used these?  I swear by them.
