September Jammin! + First Love, L.A. Giveaway!

Happy September, Lovelies!  Are you as excited as I am for the start of fall?  I can't even stand it, I am so excited!  September is my birthday and favorite month of the year, so I plan to soak up every single day wearing jewel tones, sweaters, watching football, playing in leaves (the few we have in SoCal), and stalking the corner of my local pumpkin patch  waiting for my local pumpkin patch to open! Yay!

I decided to kick off September by whipping up some Blackberry Jam and giving a jar away to one of my readers!  I am trying to build my followers, so the winner of the jam will be the person that brings the most followers by Tuesday 9/6/2011.  To win, leave a comment on this posting with the names of the followers you added and make sure that the people you bring actually click "follow" on the blog!  I will contact the winner for their address information and send the delicious, homemade blackberry jam your way!

 I just love the deep, rich purple color and subtly-sweet flavor of blackberries.

I always add a few tablespoons of lemon to my jam to help ease the sweetness.

 I love the vibrant color left on the bowl.  Glorious fall jewel tones are even in my food!


 This is the magic bubbling. 

For this batch of jam, I substituted 1 cup of brown sugar and 1 cup of honey when the recipe called for 3 cups of white sugar.  It tastes fabulous.

To test the gel-ness (is that a word?!) of my jam, I always put a little drop on a small plate and pop it in the freezer for about 5 minutes.  When I take the plate out, I run my finger through the middle of the drop.  If the jam doesn't run back together - its done!

 Blackberry jam ready to go home with you!

September-Fabulous Blackberry Jam
3 cups of crushed blackberries (you can crush in a bowl with a masher or spoon)
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup honey
2 tbsps lemon juice

Put all the ingredients in a medium sauce pan and cook on high for 5 minutes. (Should come to a rolling boil).  Reduce heat to medium and cook for 15 minutes, stir occasionally.  After the 15 minutes, do my gel test from above! Done + yum!
